ASTM A53 Carbon Steel Seamless Pipes
ASTMA53 pipe (also known as ASME SA53 pipe) is intended for
mechanical and pressure applications and is also acceptable for ordinary uses
in steam, water, gas, and overhead lines. It is right welding and forming operations related to winding,
bending, and flanging, with difficulty with positive qualifications. ASTM A53
is a carbon metallic alloy,
which may be used as structural metallic or for low-stress piping.
ASTM A53 (ASME SA53) Carbon Steel Pipe is a specification covering
NPS 1/8 to NPS 26 seamless and welded hot-dip galvanized and hot-dip galvanized
steel pipe. A53 is intended for pressure
and mechanical applications and is also acceptable for ordinary uses in steam,
water, gas, and airlines.
A53 tube is available in three types (F, E, S) and two grades (A,
B).
A53 Type F is manufactured with a furnace butt weld or may have a
continuous weld (grade A only).
A53 Type E has electrical resistance welding (grades A and B).
A53 Type S is a seamless tube and is in grades A and B.
Production process
The production process of seamless steel pipe is divided into the hot-rolled seamless pipe and cold-formed seamless pipe.
1. Manufacturing process of hot-rolled seamless steel pipe: tube
billet → heating → perforation → three-roller/cross-rolling & continuous
rolling → de-pipe → → dimensioning → cooling → straightening → hydraulic test →
marking → seamless steel tube with leverage detected.
2. Manufacturing process of cold drawn seamless steel tubes: tube
blank → heating → perforation → heading → annealing → pickling → oiling →
multiple cold drawing → blank tube → heat treatment → straightening → hydraulic
test → marking → storage.
Applications
1. Construction: the underlying pipeline, the aquifer, and the transport
of hot water.
2. Machining, bearing sleeves, machining of machine parts, etc.
3. Electric: gas delivery, hydraulic fluid pipeline.
4. Antistatic tubes for wind farms, etc.
